Dodgeball in San Francisco

Are there still any games going on in SF? Seems the dodge-scene has died (or the balls have dropped, as it were...err...) out. Anyone in the city interested in starting something up? I've had a few people email so if you're interested say aye.

SF Dodgeball wants you to come out and play!

Are you looking for something entertaining to do during the week... and/or on Saturday mornings?

Want to meet fun-loving and active people from all different walks of life?

Need to tone up and get in shape for swimsuit season?

Then perhaps you should be playing dodge ball!

SF Dodgeball, as seen, heard on NBC-11, KRON 4, the San Francisco Examiner, the front page of the San Jose Mercury News, KGO TALK Radio, SF Bay Guardian, SF Weekly, The Modesto Bee, etc. (what can I say... we're popular!), was conceived in part to revisit the frantic and carefree game that so many children played in school yards and gymnasiums in years past. Postings on Craigslist.com, word-of-mouth, and our player's passion for the sport helped to contribute to the keen response of the budding dodge ball community in San Francisco.

Our early efforts culminated in a rag-tag assembly of men and women of various backgrounds congregating in the back of the Crowbar in North Beach on a weekday evening in early May. Teams were chosen, emails addresses exchanged, and locations were proposed and considered. From this kernel sprouted the core of SF Dodgeball.

SF Dodgeball currently has a roster of over 400 players. Games are located throughout San Francisco twice a week. Up-to-date info about SF Dodgeball can always be found at http://sfdodgeball.net

The game of dodge ball should be familiar to anyone who grew up in America, and provides the perfect opportunity to experience an authentic slice of Americana for anyone who did not. Two teams line up opposite each other on an outdoor or indoor playing field, grab a few foam-rubber balls, and throw them at the opposite team. Anyone struck by a ball in mid-flight is out, as is anyone whose throw is caught in mid-flight. That’s it! It’s that simple. Teams can be organized and pre-arranged or can be picked up on the spot from whomever is available to play. Everyone who shows up will get to play, regardless if they are one person or a whole team/group.

To find out more specifics/details about our Saturday morning games or mid-week game nights and to join our mailing list… please email Sam at sfdodgeball@yahoo.com.
